MB&F’s Legacy Machine series represents the company’s interpretation of classic watchmaking. And last year, MB&F introduced the “baby” of their Legacy Machine series, the LM101. The LM101, like all of MB&F’s other pieces, is instantly recognizable thanks to its unusual dial layout and bold design, and to update the model, MB&F has just released the new LM101 Frost. Why “Frost” you may ask, well that has to do with the special finish on the dial that these watches have. For a closer look at this special finish, hit the link below.

What you need to know is that tritium will not shine as bright as high-quality lume (like C3 Super-Luminova), but when you compare the two after around 20 minutes has passed since the charging of the lume, you can expect the tritium tubes to be noticeably brighter – and, you can rest assured, they will stay that way. So, if you enjoy the bright, vibrant glow of freshly charged lume, then tritium may not be what you are looking for – but if you want to be able to read the time early in the morning or 2 hours into a movie in the cinema, the latter is your best bet.

There will be games, activities and snacks, as well as a rare opportunity to see behind the often closed doors of high-end Swiss Watchmaking. If you are in NYC at the time and your child has an interest in mechanical pursuits – or you wish to see him or her make the first steps into the realms of horology at one of the all-time greats – then this might be an event you do not want them to miss!

Dodane Type 23 Watches For 2015

Nomos announced two DUW 3001-based watches at Baselworld this year, the Nomos Tangente Automatik and the Nomos Minimatik. Let's start with the Minimatic, which is the first Nomos (that I can remember) which is specifically stated as having a feminine appeal. Nomos calls the Minimatic "a women's watch without the typical feminine characteristics", and I would agree that this 35.5 mm three-hander is likely more feminine than the balance of Nomos' line up. That said, it didn't feel girly on my wrist and I don't see any specific gender bias in most of Nomos' line up - but I digress.

One of the coolest things about the hour display complication (and this is real geek-fodder) is the way the hours are flicked over by a Maltese cross based on the brand's logo. The effect of this floating numeral that languidly points to the time would be jarringly digital, were its operation not so peaceful. There is no visible haste in this design, as there could not have been in its creation. Similarly patient is the balance, which beats away at a relatively glacial 19,800vph.

ABTW: Given that Stein helped you find one, can you tell us the story of how you came to get the grail?

While the reason to purchase such an expensive and exclusive car may be varied and different, there is a constant, and it is that owning such a car and driving it is a lifestyle. You simply cannot drive such a car without sucking dry all the attention where ever you drive it. With only 300 (or so) Bugatti Veyrons ever produced, this is not a car you will likely encounter next time you pull up at your local WholeFoods market, unless you happen to live in the Pebble Beach or Malibu counties.

Earlier today we reported on the new Rolex Day-Date 40 watch release as soon as Rolex made the watch public, and now, we are following up with a hands-on with all versions of this new model. Having met Rolex today on the first day of Baselworld 2015 – which actually is a press day and not open to the public – not only could we see and photograph the new features on this latest release, but we also received detailed explanation about them. Let's see, now, first-hand how the Rolex Day-Date 40 is new, and what it offers for those in the market for a dressier – albeit highly versatile – classic piece from the manufacture.

Artur Akmaev’s timepieces will run you around 00, however, since these are custom, one-of-a-kind pieces, prices will vary depending on complexity and desired amount of detail. This includes a Swiss ETA movement with plating, steel case, sapphire crystal, leather strap, and of course hand engraving work by Artur Akmaev. For those with inquiries or interest in a custom piece of their own, feel free to contact him directly via his email.

We don't have too many technical specs for the watches, but having seen them hands-on, I can say that they are on-par with the quality of other Frederique Constant and Alpina watches. Frederique Constant will produce the "business" Horological Smartwatch, and Alpina will produce the sporty models and the first women's watches. For men, the timepieces are about 44mm wide and perhaps 12mm or so thick. The ladies' versions are smaller at perhaps 36mm wide, with a pleasantly modern feminine style (very much like a boyfriend watch - but with available diamonds). Prices for the watches will start at about 0 or so and go up to about ,500 - ,000 for the top-end models with diamonds. I would say that the average price of a Horological Smartwatch will be about ,200 when they start to become available for sale in May or June 2015.

Yes, smartwatches. With TAG Heuer’s loud “Biverian” announcement that they will soon release a smartwatch produced in partnership with Google Android Wear and Intel, the watch world was buzzing with plans for how they should adapt to the upcoming Apple Watch or merely offer their own take on dealing with the high-end “connected watch” market. Surprisingly, talk of the Apple Watch (whose April 2015 release date was announced just one week before Baselworld 2015) was not a common topic of conversation during our meetings with watch brands. The aBlogtoWatch team anticipated a lot more questions and discussions regarding what will likely be a highly disruptive product. While some brands certainly had feet in the world of connected electronic watches, comparisons or alternatives to the Apple Watch seemed slim.

Even though a Roger Dubuis Excalibur 42 Automatic Skeleton watch won’t cost you the expected 0,000 (and up), it does inherently come with luxury pricing – but pricing that is a bit more down to earth. Prices for the Roger Dubuis Excalibur 42 Automatic Skeleton watch start at ,500 in DLC-coated titanium and go up to ,000 in 18k pink gold (without diamonds).

To that end, there is no exhibition case back, a feature I'm glad they skipped: I feel it would likely clash with the prevailing minimalist vibe of the rest of the watch. I actually kind of adore the screw-in case back on the Piaget Black Tie. If you flipped it around, it would make for a cool sportif variation - a Royal Oak given a disco remix, if you will...

The movement operates at 18,000 bph (2.5Hz) with a large 14mm-wide balance wheel operating in the center of the dial and held above the main dial with an elevated bridge. The movement is manually wound with 45 hours of power reserve. The face of the watch offers a lot of space to enjoy the frosted surfacing, with a power reserve indicator dial at 6 o'clock as well as an off-center dial for the time.
